Our Services / Manipulation & Mobilisation
Manipulative Therapy is the skilful restoration of mobility to soft tissues and joints using a variety of mobilisation and manipulative techniques. The application of Manipulative Therapy as a remedial therapy is based upon a thorough understanding of anatomy and Physiology. It aims to re-balance the musculoskeletal system, by working specifically on muscles, tendons, joints, fascia and ligaments, thus making remedial massage a powerful yet non traumatic therapy. The precise mobilisation and manipulation of joints is a natural extension of the re-balancing of soft tissue, thus allowing freedom of movement within the joints so facilitating the normal function of the vascular and neural systems.
Manipulation can be traced back as far as Hippocrates. Manipulation is a high speed movement usually performed on the neck or back. It is performed to reduce pain and improve flexibility. It is a core skill of Physiotherapy training.
Mobilisation is gentle, slow movement performed on joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves to reduce pain and improve flexibility. This technique can be varied in intensity from very gentle to deep.
Our Physios are experts on the body's musco-skeletal system and will use Manipulation and Mobilisation as part of their treatment dependent on your condition.
