Our team of Chartered Physiotherapists includes:

Anne Coolen McGoldrick
Medical Director
Chartered Physiotherapist BSc MISCP

Anne is a fully licensed and insured Chartered Physiotherapist and has worked in Private Practice for over 13 years. She is one of the founding partners of The Physio Company. Before co-founding The Physio Company, she worked in The National Orthopaedic Hospital in Clontarf, in Private Practice in Castletroy Physiotherapy Clinic in Limerick and in Drumcondra Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic. She became a joint partner in Drumcondra Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic in 2003, which has been in operation for over 25 years. When The Physio Company commenced operations in 2007, she quickly brought Drumcondra Physiotherapy Clinic into the fold and it is now an integral part of The Physio Company.

Anne takes a great interest in the direction of Chartered Physiotherapy as a profession. As Medical Director for The Physio Company, Anne applies her long and diverse experience in all areas of Physiotherapy in directing the medical excellence of our Physio team. She ensures that all of our physiotherapists maintain the high levels expected by The Physio Company with constant focus on our Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme. She also ensures all our Physiotherapists abide by The ISCP Rules of Professional Conduct and the European Core Standards of Physiotherapy, with a particular focus on ethics, confidentiality and patient satisfaction. She is very involved at a training level and handpicks all of our Physiotherapists herself.

Although Anne currently does not have a regular schedule in the Clinic she does consult on difficult cases where needed and is always available to discuss any aspect of apatients care with the patient or the Physio.

Kevin Thornton
Chartered Physiotherapist

Kevin is a fully licensed and practicing Chartered Physiotherapist. Kevin obtained his BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree with distinction from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland after initially completing a BSc.(Hons) degree in Science (Anatomy), from the National University of Ireland, Galway. Since qualifying Kevin has worked in the National Rehabilitation Hospital. He has experience in Musculoskeletal, Spinal Injuries, Neurology, Respiratory, Paediatrics, Oncology and Care of the Elderly. Kevin has also completed a post-graduate qualification in Sports Traumatology. He has worked/volunteered with many different teams such as Connacht Rugby, St. Olafs Gaelic Football, Salthill-Knocknacara Gaelic Football, Galway Swimming Club, Corrib Water Polo Club and The Irish Water Polo Team. He has a great understanding of sports injuries having represented Ireland in Water Polo and Swimming for many years. Kevin also competes in various events in long distance swimming, marathon running, and triathlons both nationally and internationally.

Stephen Swanton
Chartered Physiotherapist

Stephen is a fully licensed and practising Chartered Physiotherapist. He obtained his BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree at University College Dublin. Since qualifying Stephen has worked in private practice.  He enjoys treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries, especially neck and shoulder problems.
Since graduating Stephen has taken part in a number of professional development courses covering Biomedical Acupuncture, the Management of Work related Musculoskeletal Disorders and Sports Traumatology. In 2008 Stephen obtained certification as a Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan instructor and has previously taught the UCD Tai Chi club.
Stephen is also highly involved in the Sports and Exercise Medicine clinical interest group of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists and is currently their Communications Officer.

Stephen Swanton specialises in musculoskeletal injuries, sports injuries, sports and deep tissue massage , acupuncture.

Caroline Knox
Chartered Physiotherapist

Caroline is a fully qualified Chartered Physiotherapist and Acupuncturist. After graduating, Caroline completed her Masters Degree in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and achieved a Distinction in her membership exams for the Manipulative Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. Caroline completed a Higher Diploma in Acupuncture at UCD in 2007. She is currently completing a post graduate Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy at UCD.

She worked for 5 years as a Senior Outpatient Physiotherapist in, the award winning teaching Hospital, Whittington Hospital, London. Caroline has worked in private practice since returning to Ireland in 2005. Caroline has an expertise and a special interest in treating people suffering from chronic pain, sports injuries and musculoskeletal disorders.

Danielle Mah
Chartered Physiotherapist - Kinesiologist

Danielle Mah is a fully licensed and practicing Chartered Physiotherapist. Danielle obtained her BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree with distinction from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland after initially completing a BSc.(Hons) degree in Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia, Canada. Her main interests are in Musculoskeletal and Women’s Health. Danielle has also completed a post-graduate qualification in Sports Traumatology. She has worked with many different teams such as Bective Rugby Club, Railway Union Hockey Club, Kilmacud Crokes GAA and St.Patrick's FC, and is currently working with the FAI, travelling internationally. She has a great understanding of sports injury and having played competitive soccer and basketball for many years as she has experienced most of them herself!

Kate Canty
Chartered Physiotherapist

Kate is a fully licensed and practising Chartered Physiotherapist. She obtained a Masters degree in Physiotherapy from Teeside University, UK having initially completing her BSc (Hons) Physical Education and Mathematics degree in University of Limerick.  Kate has also completed studies in Sports and Exercise Psychology at Waterford Institute of Technology.

Kate’s interests include Rehabilitation to reduce pain and to facilitate a fast return to normal activities.  Kate loves being active and particularly enjoys playing rugby, golf, swimming and Gaelic football.

Leigh Johnston

Kevina Reel
Chartered Physiotherapist

Kevina Reel is a fully licensed and practicing Chartered Physiotherapist. She graduated from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and since graduation, Kevina has gained experience in acute care, rehabilitation and private practice settings. She spent over a year working in Christchurch, New Zealand before returning home to Ireland.

Kevina has completed a number of highly accredited post-graduate courses including dry needlingtrigger pointingcustom orthotic prescription and vestibular rehabilitation. Kevina other areas of interest include treating biomechanical problems and sports rehab.

Outside of work, Kevina enjoys running, swimming and cycling as well as travelling when she can!

Mary Byrne
Chartered Physiotherapist

Following her graduation from University College Dublin (UCD),  Mary worked in Mater Misericordiae and St. James hospitals in Dublin. She then moved on to Cork University Hospital and thereafter to the Bons Secours Hospital, also in Cork,  where she was Senior in charge of the Physiotherapy department. She successfully completed membership exams in Spinal Manipulation accredited by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in London, and became a member of the Irish Orthopaedic Medicine Society in 1990. She completed a Licentiate in Acupuncture in 2000, and obtained a Diploma in Health Science from UCD in 2006.

Mary feels passionately about health and wellbeing, especially pertaining to women with menopausal problems, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue, infertility and the need for women to keep fit at all ages. Mary combines acupuncture and physiotherapy, including orthotics, as appropriate, giving a holistic bias to her treatments. Having already established Mary Byrne and Associates Physiotherapy, Mary has now joined The Physio Company.

Margaret Doyle
Chartered Physiotherapist

Margaret graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in 1977 and worked in the hospitalsystem before moving to private practice in 1989. She gained a Postgraduate qualification in Women’s Health in 1999 and completed a Licentiate in Acupuncture in 2002, gaining further clinic experience for six weeks in Naanjing, China.

Margaret has a special interest in incontinence problems in men and women, along with general and ante/post natal care, and has attended a number of professional development courses in these areas. She also has extensive experience in musculoskeletal problems, sports injuries and orthotics.

Margaret mainly works from our Douglas clinic.

Fiona Casey
Chartered Physiotherapist

Fiona trained to be a Chartered Physiotherapist at the University of Bath (UK) andgraduated in 1997 with a B.Sc. Hons. Physiotherapy degree.  Following qualification she has worked in a number of large teaching hospitals in the UK and has sinced specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.  She has worked in private practice in the UK and Australia, where her particular areas of clinical interest have included rehabilitation and treatment of sports injuries, and biomechanical assessment with orthotic prescription where indicated. 

She is committed to continuing professional development through regular participation in post-graduate training.  She has worked with major sporting bodies including the FAI, IRFU, Munster Rugby and was Physiotherapist for Cork Constitution Senior Rugby Team from 2003 – 2008.

Claudia Andrea Marulanda
Chartered Physiotherapist

Claudia is a fully licensed and practising Chartered Physiotherapist. She graduated as a Physiotherapist from the Colombian School for Rehabilitation (CSR), Bogotá, Colombia.  CSR for more than 50 years has prepared highly qualified individuals to practice Physiotherapy mainly in the areas of cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation. In 2007, Claudia obtained the Spanish university degree of Physiotherapists recognition and validation, Madrid. Spain.
Claudia has gained much experience and worked in a variety of settings in particular neuro rehabilitation, orthopaedics and musculoskeletal.  She obtained great experience working with the Military Rehabilitation Hospital in Colombia treating patients with different conditions; such as spinal injury, strokes, multiple sclerosis, cranioencephalic trauma, and cardiac rehabilitation. She has eight years experience working as a physiotherapist in private practices and hospitals in Colombia and Ireland.

Mary is a well known and well respected Chartered Physiotherapist with over 35 years of experience in Physiotherapy with accreditations in England, Canada and Ireland. For the last 25 years, Mary has run private practice clinics in Ireland and was the founder of Drumcondra Chartered Physiotherapy & Sport’s Injury Clinic, which joined The Physio Company in 2009.
Among Mary’s many achievements and responsibilities, Mary was Chairperson of the CPPP (Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice) the body that represents all private practice physio’s.

Una Ni Mhainin
Chartered Physiotherapist

Una is a chartered Irish physiotherapist who obtained her Honours BSc in Physiotherapy from the University of Limerick. Since graduating Una has gone on to work in hospitals in both Ireland and New Zealand where she gained extensive experience in post surgery, orthopeadic and aged care physiotherapy. From there Una has gone on to work in a busy private physiotherapy clinic in Brisbane, Australia which mainly dealt with musculoskeletal and sport injuries. The clinic was also a primary physiotherapy provider for a local rugby union team and an AFL team.
Since returning home to Ireland Una has continued working in private practice. She has also been the physiotherapist for a local GAA club. Una has volunteered as a physiotherapist in the World Transplant Games 2009. She has a keen interest in sports mainly tennis and GAA.

Cian McDonnell
Chartered Physiotherapist

Cian is a fully licensed and practicing Chartered Physiotherapist. Cian obtained his BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree from University College Dublin in Ireland. Since graduating, Cian has worked in private practices in Ireland and New Zealand, while also working with many different teams such as UCD’s Senior Hurling teams, Limerick 37 FC and the New Zealand All Blacks Rugby team. He has also completed a post-graduate qualification in Sports Traumatology.

Ciaran Coyle

Ciaran is a member of the HPC, ICSP and the CSP having qualified with a Masters in Physiotherapy obtained from the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland. Ciaran’s undergraduate Bachelor of Science Honours degree (Human Anatomy) was obtained from National University of Ireland, Galway.

Ciaran has a special interest in Musculoskeletal Problems, those with Neurological impairment and also working with those with Special Needs.  Ciaran has a keen interest in Rugby Union and played for Galwegians RFC and OLBC RFC in Ireland, and reached the BUSA final while playing with RGU, Aberdeen. Ciaran has also been a volunteer physiotherapist to OLBC RFC, and Connacht Rugby who play in the Magners League. He has also played Gaelic Football and Soccer.

Cait O'Doherty
Chartered Physiotherapist

Cait is a fully licensed Chartered Physiotherapist with current membership of the ICSP, HPC and the CSP. Cait obtained her BSc. (Hons) Physiotherapy degree from University of Ulster (Jordanstown). Since qualifying Cait has worked in the NHS and private practice and has broad experience in Musculoskeletal  injury, sports injury, orthopaedics, Neurological rehabilitation, care of the elderly and paediatrics. In addition to this Cait is involved as a team physiotherapist to several GAA teams in the south Galway area. She has also worked as a team Physiotherapist to several teams in Ulster and the USA since qualifying.

Cait grew up in County Antrim and represented her club, county and university in camogie winning several titles including intermediate all-Ireland. Cait is now based in Galway and is a keen Ardrahan Camogie player.  She understands the need to return to full fitness as soon as possible in order to get back on the pitch! Cait’s strong sporting background helps in the treatment, healing and recovery not only for those involved in sport but also for those suffering from chronic musculoskeletal injuries.

Frank Kenny
Chartered Physiotherapist

Frank is a fully licensed Chartered Physiotherapist with current membership of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (UK) and the League Medical Association (Sports Medicine in Elite Professional Sport – UK). He obtained his BSc. (Hons) Physiotherapy Degree in Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. He also holds a previous BSc. Degree in Science from N.U.I. Galway.

Since qualifying Frank has worked as the head physiotherapist of St. Johnstone Football Club of the Scottish Premier League, treating numerous international players such as Cillian Sheridan, Alan Maybury, Callum Davidson and Jody Morris on a full time basis. Frank also has experience working as a personal trainer with Micro Fitness and Conditioning in Vancouver, Canada. Here he provided comprehensive strength and conditioning, injury prevention and rehabilitation advice to a wide range of clients from those suffering with degenerative neurological conditions to elite professional athletes.

Since graduating Frank has completed courses in dry needling, osteopathic techniques for physiotherapists, diagnostic ultrasound, sports specific taping and orthopaedic medicine. He is currently involved in the Sports Physiotherapy Program in conjunction with the Sports Surgery Clinic Santry, helping with elite team assessments.

Outside of work Frank likes to get involved in most sports. He has represented his county and university in underage Gaelic football and soccer, and he has played underage hockey for Munster and was also involved in underage training camp with the Irish national team.

Frank specialises in sports injuriesmusculoskeletal injuriesdry needlingsports and deep tissue massage, and post-op rehab.

John Jordan
Chartered Physiotherapist

John is a fully licensed Chartered Physiotherapist with current membership of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. He gained his BSc Physiotherapy degree from UCD in Ireland, winning the Mater Prize for Psychiatry in the process. He also holds a previous degree in Sport Science and Physiology from the University of Leeds.

Since qualifying John has worked in both private practice and nursing homes, gaining experience in a wide range of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. He has vast experience in exercise prescription, working with elite athletes to absolute novices and with children to the elderly.  He has completed numerous other qualifications such as sports specific taping, various coaching courses and sports specific exercise training.

John enjoys physical challenges and has earned club colours whilst rowing for UCD.  He captained his University of Leeds Athletics Club and represented the South of England in 200m. He has also competed in many charity road races and has competed in the Dublin Marathon. There are few sports that John does not enjoy watching.

John has a particular interest in lower limb biomechanics, have completed two papers on the subject.  He specialises in orthotic prescription using our TOG gait scanner, as well as musculoskeletal injuriessports injuriessports and deep tissue massage

Warwick Gordon
Chartered Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist

Warwick is a fully qualified and practising Chartered Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with a BHSc from Auckland University of Technology.  He later went on to complete an MHSc in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2009 allowing him to diagnose and treat complex neuromusculoskeletal conditions using advanced techniques including spinal manipulation. He has developed his skills working in private practice in both New Zealand and Ireland over the last seven years and has a particular interest in low back pain, running disorders and dysfunctions of the shoulder. Whilst working in private practice Warwick has worked with a variety of elite athletes providing on and off field care to the Marist Rugby club competing in the Auckland Premier Rugby Competition and Waitakere United soccer in the New Zealand National league.  Currently Warwick works with Bective Rangers RFC.

Rob Hanley
Chartered Physiotherapist

Rob Hanley is a fully licensed and insured Chartered Physiotherapist. Rob obtained his BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree from UCD. Since qualifying Rob has worked in the Mater hospital and various private practices and has been with us from 2007. His experience covers areas such as Musculoskeletal, Neurology, Respiratory, Rheumatology, and Care of the Elderly. Rob has obtained post-graduate qualification in Trigger Point Therapy, Occupational Back Pain and Sports Physiotherapy, and is a Stotts Trained Pilates Instructor. He has worked pitch-side with teams such as UCD Gaelic Football, UCD Soccer, St.Jude’s hurling teams and Dublin’s Senior Camogie Team. Other sporting experience has included the Irish Special Olympics Swimming Squad. Rob enjoys participating in many activities, such as Gaelic Football, Judo and Shaolin Kung Fu. We’re keeping on his good side!

He completed his physiotherapy degree following an initial degree in Biochemistry from Trinity College Dublin. Having represented both club and county at underage level in Gaelic Football ,winning county and provincial finals and also representing both Trinity college and RCSI at intervarsity level in soccer he understands the need for quick and effective rehabilitation and he understands the drive of competitive sportspeople to get back onto the pitch as soon as possible. Declan's strong sporting background combined with the scientific knowledge gives him a great understanding of the science of healing and recovery not only for those involved in sport but also for those suffering from chronic musculoskeletal injuries.

Sinead Boylan
Chartered Physiotherapist

Sinead is a fully licensed and practicing Chartered Physiotherapist. Sinead obtained her BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree from University of Ulster (Jordanstown). Since qualifying Sinead has worked in various private practices.  Her experience covers areas such as Musculoskeletal, Neurology, Respiratory, Rheumatology, and Care of the Elderly. She has worked pitch-side with Fermanagh GAA Senior football team, other teams within the county and varies GAA teams in Dublin.  Sinead has also completed a course in kinesiology taping.   Sinead enjoys many activities such as, tennis, hiking/hill walking and Gaelic football.

Anne-Therese Mooney
Chartered Physiotherapist

Anne-Therese is a fully licensed and practising Chartered Physiotherapist. She obtained her BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree at University of Ulster, Belfast.  Since qualifying Anne-Therese has worked in a number of places both in Ireland and Australia.  She has built up experience in a wide selection of Physiotherapy areas. 

Anne-Therese has completed a number of accredited post-graduate courses which have added to the repertoire of techniques she uses.

In her spare time, Anne-Therese loves to be active and enjoys playing and watching many different sports.  She also has an interest in languages and loves to travel and experience new places.

Her main interests are in musculoskeletal, Paediatrics, Sports Injuries, Disability and Rehabilitation.

Anne-Therese Mooney specialises in paediatric conditions, rehabilitation programmes, sports injuries, musculo-skeletal conditions.

Dr Paul Barrett
Clinical Director – Podiatry

Paul qualified from Queens University Belfast with an Honours Degree in Podiatry in 1995, and since then has completed a Masters Degree (1997) and a PhD (2000) from the University of Ulster, each in the area of foot orthoses and their effect on lower limb kinetics and kinematics – with specific interest in Patellofemoral Pain. Paul has worked in private practice, the NHS and Orthopaedic ICATS team. In addition to his clinical work he has lectured in the Northern Ireland School of Podiatry on a variety of subjects, and been invited to lecture on other courses within the UK. 

In 2000 Paul began working with The Orthotic Group and now works as their Clinical Director. This role has seen him lecture regularly throughout Europe, and train many hundreds of medical practitioners in Gait Analysis and Orthotic Therapy. Paul also has a strong background in sport, representing Northern Ireland at junior level in judo and playing hockey at national level for Ireland, as well as being a keen triathlete and climber.

Paul will lead our Podiatry service in The Physio Company and we welcome his expertise in  dealing with all foot-types, from kids to the high risk and elderly foot and from elite sportsmen and women to recreational athlete.

Dr Paul Barrett specialises in foot pain, balance and mobility assessments, orthotics , arthritis, gait dysfunction & abnormalities, biomechanics.

Muirna Hamill
Chartered Physiotherapist

Muirna is a fully licensed and practicing Chartered Physiotherapist. Since qualifying Muirna has gained her experience working in private practice and has also worked with various sports teams such as Saint Patrick’s Palmerstown GAA team, Sligo IT and UCD rugby team during the last season. She has had ample opportunity to put her sports traumatology post graduate qualification to good use. In addition, Muirna completed her Pilates training with the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute (APPI) to become a Pilates instructor and has taught back pain specific classes as well as hosting ”Manage your own back pain” weekend self management courses to great success.

As a Physiotherapist she has a very hands-on approach and uses Pilates rehabilitation focusing on whole body conditioning. Her ultimate aim is to give you the tools to help you to help yourself to get better.

Her hobbies include running, Pilates, tag rugby and soccer and she has completed the Dublin and Boston Marathons in very respectable times!

Margo Heffernan
Chartered Physiotherapist – Kinesiologist

Margo is a fully licensed and practicing Chartered Physiotherapist. Margo obtained her BSc. Physiotherapy degree at the University College Dublin. She has worked with Waterford Institute of Technology as the Physio for all the sports teams, with Havenwood Nursing Home providing service for their residents and with Waterford Regional Hospital in the Waterford Back Care Programme. She has also worked in Private Practice in Waterford Health Park prior to joining our clinic and team. Margo has a special interest in musculoskeletal injuries especially the low back. She also has experience with sports injuries, sports traumatology and core stability rehabilitation. She is efficient in the use of Kinesiology taping and will soon complete her Pilates qualification. She also has an interest in adult neurology and respiratory conditions.

Margo enjoys Camogie and was a member of the Waterford Senior Camogie Team who were runners up in the All Ireland in 2009 and 2010. She also loves basketball and is currently playing for the Wildcats Division 1 Team.

Maria Walsh
Chartered Physiotherapist

Maria is a fully licensed and practicing Chartered Physiotherapist. Maria obtained her MSc. Physiotherapy masters degree at the University of East Anglia, UK. Prior to this she obtained her undergraduate BSc (hons) degree in Sports Science at Canterbury Christchurch University, UK.

Since qualifying Maria has gained her experience working in private practice and has also worked with various sports teams including the Waterford Ladies football team.

Maria has completed her Pilates training with the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute (APPI) to become a Pilate’s instructor. She was solely responsible for promoting, organizing and running back classes. Maria has also completed a number of other post-graduate courses which have added to the repertoire of techniques, such as deep dry needlingkinesiology tapingshoulder rehabilitationand spinal manual therapy. Maria also has experience in providing treatments forWomen’s Health.

Maria is a keen cyclist and enjoys taking part in numerous Sportiff cycling events during the summer months.

Colin Taylor
Chartered Physiotherapist

Colin is a fully licensed and practicing Chartered Physiotherapist. Since completing his MSc. Physiotherapy degree at the University of East London, he has worked in both public hospitals and private practice in Ireland and UK.  Colin has worked with a large number of sports teams including the Westmeath Football and Hurling teams.

Colin has a keen interest in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic physiotherapy, and gained plenty of experience at the London Elective Orthopaedic Centre treating both pre- and post-operative patients.  Colin has also completed research in the use of continuous passive movement post total knee replacement, and completed a number of other post-graduate courses such as acupuncturegait analysis and orthotic prescription, Pilates and manual trigger pointing.

Colin mainly works out of our Waterford clinic.
